Siobhán is an experienced Psychotherapist and Counsellor and is an accredited member of the  British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).  She has studied a variety of therapy types including CBT and Psychodynamic therapy and will discuss with her patients the best she feels will be suited to them.  She also has a background in Complex Trauma Therapy from her time working with young adults and also the police force.

Siobhán’s warm and empathic approach offers a safe and non-judgemental space for patients  to explore their thoughts and feelings and will move at a pace that suits them.

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) focuses on the concept that your thoughts,  beliefs, feelings and actions are interconnected and that once one is aware of those thoughts, they can focus on the feelings which they bring, as well as adapt the actions that follow. The CBT approach aims to  help deal with overwhelming problems in a more positive way, bringing them into awareness and breaking them down into smaller parts.

Psychodynamic Therapy focuses on one’s unconscious thoughts, showing how feelings and behaviors in the present are shaped by experiences and perceptions from the  past. The psychodynamic approach aims to show how early experiences and relationships shape the  expectations and attitudes we have towards life and continue into adulthood.  We may carry past  patterns and dynamics into our current experiences and into new relationships.  These sometimes have negative patterns and can cause us harm.

You may at times feel stuck, with limiting beliefs of yourself and what you can achieve, this can  impact your happiness and the ability to move forward in everyday life. Therapy can help to increase  self-awareness, develop strategies and be kinder to yourself.

What you hope to discuss may stem from your childhood, difficult life events, worries you may have, illness, family dynamics, work or social pressures. They may relate to addiction, bereavement,  depression or anxiety.  All of these can lead to a sense of helplessness, even despair. Speaking about the impact these have on you can be instrumental in moving forward.

Siobhan will use the tools from her wealth of experience and work with her clients to achieve the best possible outcome.

HOW IT WORKS
Therapy can be hugely beneficial, particularly when based on regular personal interaction.  Siobhán  will discuss what you hope to achieve during your time together, which may of change course as your  therapy progresses. Along the way, we will work towards understanding your triggers, developing coping strategies, overcoming obstacles, increasing your happiness and enabling change. You may have no  wish to make any adjustments and instead just to talk about your thoughts and feelings. There may  be times where you simply want to talk to someone other than a friend or a family member where  you can speak freely and at your own pace.

During therapy you will not be told what you should, or should not feel or do. Instead, you will have the time to reflect alongside a professional in order to find your own answers. The process should be a unique personal experience, tailor made for you.
