Georgios.........

Dr Georgios Karagiannis is a consultant cardiologist at Harefield Hospital, where he treats private and NHS patients.

 

He studied medicine at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece. He completed his specialist training in Greece and was awarded ‘excellent’ marks on completion. In 2009, he completed his PhD in Cardiology, for which he also received an ‘excellent’ mark.

​

For his academic and clinical work, Dr Karagiannis has been awarded a fellowship of the European Society of Cardiology and a fellowship of the European Heart Failure Association.

 

Since 2013, Dr Karagiannis has worked as a consultant cardiologist at the transplant department of Harefield Hospital. He also works in the cardiology department at nearby Hillingdon Hospital.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Dr Georgios Karagiannis’s research is mainly focused on heart failure. He has been awarded three national prizes for his research.

 

 

PUBLICATIONS

 

Dr Georgios Karagiannis has developed a broad academic portfolio including publications in high-profile medical journals. He has presented his work in both national and international congresses.

He has published papers on a range of topics, including:

  • left ventricular geometry as a major determinant of left ventricular ejection fraction: physiological considerations and clinical implications

  • a simple score for early risk stratification in acute heart failure

  • in-hospital bleeding events in acute coronary syndrome patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention in the era of novel P2y12 inhibitors

  • prevalence of impaired coronary flow reserve and its association with left ventricular diastolic functions in asymptomatic individuals with major cardiovascular risk factors

  • the sympathetic nervous system in heart failure physiology, pathophysiology, and clinical implications.

 

 

TEACHING

 

Dr Georgios Karagiannis has a keen interest in teaching and has the following roles:

  • honorary senior clinical lecturer at Imperial College London

  • senior lecturer at Brunel University London

  • Tutor at the Royal College of Physicians

Nik is a club tennis player and golfer with an offical handicap of 7.5.  He still plays Hockey for the Old Merchant Taylor's School and heads up a 5-a-side football team

Dr Rosser qualified from the Royal Free and University College Medical School in 2007 and has worked in and around London ever since. His cardiology training was in the prestigious North West Thames rotation. Dr Rosser completed interventional cardiology fellowships at both the Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals working with some of the world’s leading cardiologists. He now works as a consultant cardiologist at Hillingdon and Harefield hospitals.

CLINICAL EXPERTISE

  • Angina (chest pain) 

  • Heart failure

  • Syncope (collapse or loss of consciousness)

  • Palpitations

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
     

His subspecialist interest is the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease. He contributes to Harefield Hospital’s heart attack service which treats patients suffering from heart attacks, available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. He performs all forms of coronary artery intervention (coronary angiography and stenting) including chronic total occlusion and rotablation. When appropriate, he uses adjunctive techniques to guide treatment including pressure wire examination, intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT).

​

Each week, Dr Rosser chairs a multidisciplinary team meeting at a nearby hospital to discuss patients presenting with a wide range of cardiac pathology.

Dr Gareth Rosser has published a number of papers and articles in journals including:

TEACHING

​

Dr Gareth Rosser has an interest in education and trains Imperial College London medical students at both Harefield and Hillingdon Hospitals.

He is an honorary senior lecturer at Imperial College London and is accredited through the Royal College of Physicians as a clinical and educational supervisor.
